Clinical Molecular Geneticist / Translational Genomic Researcher
The Department of Medical Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary and Genetic Laboratory Services of Alberta Health Services, invite applications for a full-time academic position as a Clinical Molecular Geneticist. Qualifications include an MD, or PhD in Genetics or related field with certification/ eligibility for certification in Molecular Genetics by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists or American Board of Medical Genetics.
This position offers an excellent opportunity to combine research and clinical diagnostic service work, with the prospect for independent research and translational genomic activities. The Faculty is home to a number of excellent core research facilities, including next-generation sequencing infrastructure. Collaborative opportunities with a strong clinical genetics unit provide a rich repository of patient research materials.
The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory is a well-equipped, custom-designed facility, situated at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and performs a full range of DNA-based testing for hereditary conditions. Along with the adjacent cytogenetics and biochemical genetics laboratories, and nearby clinical genetics unit, Calgary is an accredited comprehensive training (CCMG and RCPSC) and service facility (CCMG and CPSA). Diagnostic service responsibilities include case interpretation, technical oversight, monitoring compliance with accreditation standards/practice guidelines and supervision of trainees.
